Email Your Legislator!

This Friday, Feb. 6, the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee (JFAC) will vote on an additional $18.4 million in cuts to Idaho Medicaid. These cuts would come on top of the $45 million in Medicaid cuts already recommended by the Governor earlier this session.

These proposed cuts are being driven by uncertainty around how much state revenue Idaho might lose if lawmakers choose to conform to recent federal tax changes passed in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OB-3). Importantly, Idaho is not required to conform to these federal tax changes.

If Idaho does conform, the state could lose between $115 million and $192 million in revenue every year—money that currently helps fund essential services like Medicaid.

We need you to speak up now and ask budget writers to stop further Medicaid cuts.
Here are a few key points you may want to include when contacting lawmakers:

  • Idaho Medicaid has already faced multiple cuts in the past year, including through HB 345, OB-3, and a 4% provider cut from the Governor’s holdbacks. Lawmakers should allow time to see the real impact of those changes before making even deeper cuts.

  • Instead of cutting Medicaid, the legislature could use a portion of Idaho’s $1.7 billion in rainy-day funds to cover costs while revenue projections are uncertain.

  • Additional healthcare cuts will reduce access to care for everyone—especially in rural Idaho, where hospitals and clinics are already at risk of closing.

We need you to speak up now and ask budget writers to stop further Medicaid cuts.

Lawmakers need to hear directly from Idahoans. When you use the tool, you’ll be able to send an email directly to your legislators.

We strongly encourage you to add your own story or personal message to the pre-written email. Sharing why Medicaid matters to you, your family, your patients, or your community makes your message more powerful and harder to ignore.

Your voice matters—and personal messages make a real difference.

Medicaid Listening Sessions

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is hosting listening sessions to get input from providers, community organizations, individuals and families on what they need to consider as they move Medicaid into a comprehensive managed care system.
